i heard a poem off a friend today titled self harm he doesn't cut but self harms in behaviours and actions he said he felt all alone i said although i self harmed once i knew exactly what he meant .the professionals had ignored his pleas of self destruction as he had not cut himself i see self harm taking many forms. i have thought many times my behaviours are self harming but without knives

Oh yes. I hope you're friend will consider another therapist who will take the time to understand him.
There are many behaviors from reckless driving to many others, that are considered forms of self-harm or with self-harm in mind. You're not alone. KD

Yes, self harm can take many forms- basically anything which is harmful to your health or wellbeing can be considered self harm from cutting and burning to alcohol abuse, anorexiz/bulima and reckless driving (as KD said), as well as many things inbetween. I hope your friend can get the help he is needing, and he is very lucky to have you there to support him. Good luck.
