For the past few years I have been severely struggling emotionally and it has led me to feel the need to harm myself and I was hoping that anyone else who has had similar experiences would be able to suggest alternative coping methods or advice...

Hi Winterella, welcome to Psych Central! Perhaps these suggestions will be of help. Also, perhaps, posting in this forum will help you find what you are looking for.

I find that asking myself "Why do I want to hurt myself? What am I trying to get out of it?" helps me.

As for coping skills I like writing out what I am feeling and going online and going on social media or watching mass media.

My old T and I had a whole list for alternative one time.
I can't remember them all but some were: play video games, spend time with siblings or friends, cry, be nice to myself, go for a walk, practice mindfulness, call T or crisis line, paint or read.
