Does anyone else deal with this? I called into work because I'm sick (sinus infection) and my boss sounded mad on the phone. I didn't need the money and it's just a part-time job while I'm in school, but I want to punish myself for calling in. I really wish secular self-flagellation was ok.

When I used to cut I sometimes did it to punish myself. If I felt like I did something stupid for example. Sometimes we perceive people to be mad by thoughts we already have, if he was actually mad, then that's his problem. You are legitimately sick and need the day off, take care of yourself first.

Hope your sinus infection goes away soon! I'm also sick, must be this time of year

I know what it is like to self harm to punish yourself. I have done that many times. And when that happens I think that logic can be of some use. For example, everyone takes sick days and people can have bad days. So you are not a bad person for taking a day off to heal and maybe your boss just dealt with an irritating client.

I hope you are gentle with yourself. Hugs.

Yes, one of my primary reasons for self-harm is to punish myself to absolve a feeling of guilt.

I'm hoping you can be compassionate to yourself - being sick and calling in sick is OK. It's better than being unproductive at work.

I used to spank myself with the flyswatter when I was little (around 7 I think) whenever I felt I had done something to warrant it.
