I have type 2 bipolar disorder and an anxiety disorder. I used to cut...not bad mostly just scratching just for a little release. Now I only cut maybe once every 2 years when I get in over my head. To replace cutting I started sleeping around. It became a coping skill. I can't go more than 2 days without it. I've been working really hard on not doing it but it's difficult. I've slept with a lot of people quite a few I don't even know their last names. And I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem and if there's a way to get over it?

Hi pretty-eyes, do you see a therapist? If not, that may be something you want to consider.

-Take care,

There's no one-size-fits all method - that's why it's advisable to seek out a professional who will work with you to determine the cause of such behaviour and what practically can be done about it.

At the moment, please try and partake in such activities as safely as possible. I know that can be difficult if a lot of it's done on impulse but you're aware that you're exposing yourself to the possibility of STD's - so at least schedule more regular health check ups/testing while you seek out further help.

Best of luck.

I've been seeing a therapist for the last 4 years 2-4 times a month. I've been getting a lot better being aware of it. Therapy only helps so much though..

None really. I mostly just stay away from the male population because that's all they want and I learned to steer clear of things that can trigger things so I mostly just started keeping to myself but apparently that's bad to so I'm pretty much stuck

What about meds? Could a skills group help, like group therapy?

I too have experience with self harm, so feel free to message me if you want to talk.

Best of luck to you.

The point of therapy is to help you recognize what's causing a particular issue and from there learn the right way to deal with it.

Perhaps you need someone better qualified. Would you say your difficulties amount to sex addiction? There are plenty of groups both online and in real life that can support you through that. Definitely seek out someone who at least understands mood disorders a bit better. Medication is usually a must with bipolar. The right doc can help you find the most suitable kind but if that's not appropriate for whatever reason, an alternative treatment plan is still put in place.

You shouldn't have to hide away and simply put up with troubling symptoms - you are worthy of a life with less limitations. All the best to you.
