I have been dating my boyfriend for 2 whole years coming up in july...we have known each other 2 years and a few months....and we still arent engaged. Mainly i guess i should i understand the reasons like we are too young (im 18 and he is 22) we are finacinally unstable...but getting there!!! The reason im putting this in here is one reason is he wont ask me to marry him cuz i SI and he said once i fix this and get myself taken care of....Alright i get it....so I know there is no possbility of us engaged soon...i mean i see all the problems...but that doesnt make me feel any less better!!!!!!!!! Lol ...if he saw this he would laugh and poke me...and say...see i AM right...but but....but....what about a LONG engagement?!!!!!! meh...i love him sooooo much...and I know with no doubt in my heart that he is the one!!! Heck i moved across the country to be with him...and in the hardest moments he fought tooth and nail to keep me....he is soo good to me...and he knows my problems..and still loves me..i dont know why...but like i had nightmares just a few hours ago and i went over to his bed and he held me and made me feel alittle better and he kissed me and told me he was there for me....i will wait...lol but that doesnt mean i have to like it LOL!!! I guess in the end i will be happier....alright..i started out asking why it wouldnt be cool to have a long engagement...now i understand most of it...i guess i just had to see it in typing...and watching wedding shows and movies isnt helping lol thanks for listening to me ramble...
love, Inny

He sounds really understanding...

I knew that my X suffered from an eating disorder when she was 19. I met her at 23 and married at 25.

I didn't really understand much about eating disorders. When stress, contention, and lack of control entered our marriage about six years later her AND my old habits came back.

I'm not trying to drag you down. But I wanted to offer this for consideration. If you are "fixed" and down the road a few years, when some trial hits your marriage what will you turn to in order to cope? or should I say who? Hopefully him. Hopefully, he will understand that the term "fixed" is a bit relative. Will he be there to support you if there is a slip...

I'm glad you found someone understanding!

Things you may want to consider in some of your T-sessions.

He doesn't want to commit until you can stop your SI? That is a reasonable request, but what about that whole "in sickness and in health" thing? You're not perfect, and even when you do finally recover, you might have relapses down the road (hopefully not).
I'm sorry to sound pessimistic, but that sent a big red flag up when I read that. I hope you guys do get married eventually.

Have you asked him why he wants to wait because of your SI? What difference does it make between now and with a ring?
