Last month I celebrated 10 years since the last time I cut. I just wanted to let everyone know it is possible, but don't try to do it alone. The longest I made it before now was 14 days and everytime I tried to stop it would end in a suicide attempt, I felt I would rather die than live without cutting. Then after the attempt I would decide that friends would rather I cut than die. Of course I lost most of my friends due to cutting, it scared them how bad I had gotten, and my best friend said they 'wouldn't stand around and watch me die' so they quit talking to me. I had already accepted I would probably die from cutting eventually (blood loss or infection). Thankfully I had a counselor recommend a 12 step program, got a sponsor, prayed a lot, and was able to quit. I still want to cut (most days if I'm honest) and what keeps me going is God, a strong support system, and going to meetings and working the 12 steps. It's not easy but I do have a life I never dreamed of now, despite other mental health obstacles as well. I just wanted to let everyone know there is hope, no matter how far gone you are. I know there aren't many 12 step groups that acknowledge self harm, but you can go to Celebrate Recovery, or even just get the booklets and do it with a counselor, or go to Alcoholics Anonymous and introduce yourself as an addict and just use drinking in place of the words cutting, or just go and listen. I also like listening to AA speaker meetings on youtube. I'm sorry I'm not around much anymore, but I hope this helps someone.
