Does anyone want to just take their nails and embed them in your inner arms because a parents is making noise (breathing heavy, a mouth breather, coughing all the time)

I can't stand it. I am going to lose it.

Not possible in my case. I'm a breaker and banger. The stab wasn't supposed to be a stab, but I did it after being shouted at and demeaned.

I don't self harm anymore, so now I do sometimes feel the way you described. Sometimes I think it's silly. People can't always help the way they breathe, if they're coughing, etc., and logically I know that. I think maybe, for me, it has to do with the fact that I don't manage my emotions well at all, so when I'm feeling the way you described, I've spent too long pushing my emotions down and they are all coming to a head. But I'm not entirely sure why I react that way sometimes. Anyway, that's just my personal experience.

I can't remember the name now but there is actually a disorder where people cannot stand certain noises and they feel out of control when they hear them. I think I have that to an extent.

I am the same way. I lose my flippin' mind (in my head) around loud mouth-breathers/eating in general/excessive coughing, etc. UGH. I am a preschool teacher, and there are days when a kid coughs ALL DAY LONG and it makes me want to cause myself physical pain to relieve the mental anguish. I don't let on to anybody how crazy it makes me, because i because extremely irrationally angry about it.

I did see some article on FB that this has a name, starts with an M is all I can remember. I feel your pain. All I think is CLOSE YOUR MOUTH WHEN YOU CHEW. ITS NOT SO HARD. My mother is the worst, and i only see her a few times a year and it drives me inssaannneeee.

Yeah I have struggled with this since I was a teenager. It seems to come and go though. I always get annoyed by the same triggers such as a parent breathing, chewing and drinking but the intensity of my annoyance changes.
I've never been diagnosed but Misophonia seems to describe it perfectly.

That's exactly what I was thinking, too.

Check out this book:
Too Loud, Too Bright, Too Fast, Too Tight: What to Do If You Are Sensory Defensive in an Overstimulating World: Sharon Heller: 9780060932923: Amazon.com: Books

I mainly looked into sensory processing disorder because my daughter has some sensory seeking traits (likes being upside-down, spinning, etc.), but in reading more about it, I've learned I'm somewhat sensory defensive (mostly with bright lights, smells, and certain tastes/textures). Sounds would be a trigger for you.
