So my scars are reallllllly bad. The type where if I don't wear long sleeves all summer, every single person I pass will stare at me. A lot are hypertrohic so obviously nothing will "cover" that, but I'm going to Florida in July and it will obviously be HOT. Has anyone had any luck with a specific (thick) type of concealer or such? Also, I've tried this before but even waterproof makeup does come off on my clothes when my arms rub.

Thoughts?

I use skin camouflage, I don't know how you get it in Canada, but it's used by actors in movies etc. for special effects and also for people with facial disfigurement and major burns as well as SI scars.

In uk a charity called "changing faces" provides subsidised assessments and the cream plus setting powder is prescribed by your doctor.
(The volunteer who assessed me had previously self harmed themselves and was very understanding, even allowed extra time for people with SI scars)

Obviously the coverage won't be perfect on hypertrophic scars but they can be 'smoothed over' to an extent. If you can get a consultation, it is matched to your skin tone and it lasts from a day to 4days for some, and is waterproof so you can swim and shower.

My scars are burns, so the cream doesn't stick quite so well and is on the underside of my forearms so there is a lot of friction with the arms of the power wheelchair I use for outdoor mobility, but it still lasts a day.

It's expensive but a pot lasts for ages so in the long term is similar to normal cosmetics.

Worth a look. Good luck and let us know what you find out for the other Canadians who need it.

Thanks for this!

Another option would be to wear long-sleeve shirts of a really breathable fabric, like linen or lightweight 100% cotton. That might actually feel better in terms of heat than heavy makeup, plus it would help protect you from the sun.
Hope you're doing OK, Pink!

I use camouflage cream in the sun and you can use oil free cosmetics on top of it.

Ihope you find something that works for you.

A lot of people who do sports at the beach wear longsleeved rash guards--they are thin, cooling fabrics made for swimmers, etc. they have sun protection built in, too.

If you do try makeup, I highly recommend setting powder--but honestly, in the heat at the beach, all makeup is likely to melt and run.
