Hi everyone! A week & a half ago, I tried to commit suicide by taking lots of Effexor. I ended up in the hospital for about a week & a half, five days in psych ward. Is it normal to feel lightheaded after taking an overdose? It did go through my system, so it can possibly still be in my body. They changed my meds to Paxil, which I have been taking daily.

Hi darla,
After an overdose, yes that's one of the effects you could have...........but if you're saying you're still feeling that then I'd say you should definitely get it medically checked out, of course there's the chance it might not be an effect e.g. if it's depression linked anxiety, some underlying medical issue which could have even contributed to the way you've been feeling, side effects of the change in medication.............but if you're still feeling that..........then definitely get it medically checked out. AND..........it sounds like you must have been having a real hard time leading up to the attempt?? ![]() So...........hopefully you're going to be getting some follow-on or out-patients support, but do you want to talk a bit about what led you there or/and about how you're feeling now........?? I see you've not long ago found this site, maybe you know by now, but there are a lot of really supportive people on here, so it can be a real good place to talk about "hard" things...........so if/when you're ready/want to talk about things...........we're here, and I'm glad you found us ![]() Alison |

I recall one of the SNRIs (I'm not sure which one - Effexor or Cymbalta) induce self destructive thoughts depending on what time of day I took it. Weird side effect.
