I also got an email from a lady with a readers program to read to kids my dad thinks I shouldnt be allowed to around kids if I'm self harming my brother said I should I think I just need a pair of gloves problem is burns are on my fingers kids are probably going to notice and ask questions another thing they asked for background checks and I'm wondering if that includes fingerprint s.i just remember listening to this song were they burned off there fingerprints if so can I choose a different hand.i already told the lady in an email I wanted to do it but maybe I should have said no . |

Hello passionfruit: You know... from my perspective this is a case of "first things first", as the saying goes. I recall reading a previous post of yours regarding your having burned your fingers & wondering if you should see a doctor. You write here that your fingers have blistered & one of them feels weird... like you can't feel it.
![]() ![]() ![]() Personally I don't think you shouldn't be around kids with the injury you have. As your brother said, you can wear gloves. Or you can tell the children that you spilled boiling water on your fingers. They're not going to know the difference. But the greater issue here is that you seem to continue to keep doing serious harm to yourself. And that is something you really need to try to resolve. The question of whether or not you should read to kids is really beside the point, in my opinion. ![]() Perhaps, since it sounds as though you'd really like to read to kids, you could make this a reward for seeing a doctor about your fingers. (I doubt that a background check is going to include finger prints.) Perhaps, in reading to kids, you can find something that can help you find a way to stop harming yourself. You would be bringing joy to the kids you read to & helping yourself to heal at the same time. Wouldn't that be a wonderful outcome? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I think reading to the kids is a great idea.
I think the scalding water story is possibly a good one. If anyone asks/asked me about scars, I usually say something like "it's old" "it's healing" or "it's only a burn". Generally that stops the conversation. Skeezyks is wise, treatment should be a priority as infection would make the scars much worse and the correct dressings will heal it more quickly with less scar. I may have been lucky, but in my experience, when health professionals have asked me about burns, either because they noticed them in another context or I sought treatment for them myself, the main concern was to make sure I was not a victim of domestic violence and someone else was doing it to me. Some professionals are insensitive and treat people badly, but I wonder if Sometimes our guilty feelings makes us super sensitive to what we think they are thinking about or judging us, even if they're not. Best wishes and hugs ![]()
