I wasn't sure whether to put this in anxiety or here, so I'm erring on the side of caution because I know SH can be more triggering to talk about for some.

I had T today at 4. About halfway thru, I went into a major panic attack with dissociation. I kept trying to fight it, regulating breathing, counting things, etc. Nothing would work. My T was there and I vaguely remember some questions, mostly yes or no. I couldn't speak, I couldn't feel my body. After a while, I remember I felt cold and my T asked if she could touch my hand. From there, it moved to the tapping EMDR... It took an hour before I was able to leave.

After that, I had four more panic attacks, not as bad, but still uncomfortable. My normal med didn't work. I knew if I went home in that state, I would SH to the point of needing medical care (again).

I have a history of abusing substances, so if I need something stronger than my normal med, I have to go to the psych ER or a regular ER. I decided to go to the regular ER.

The doc I was assigned was a POS. He should never be allowed to treat anyone with mental illness. He came in and asked why I was there, I said anxiety, he asked who my pdoc is, I answered, he said you really should work this out with him and not come here, I tried to explain, and he just said, I'll get you something and walked off. The nurse was standing there the entire time. He didn't even let me explain that I really didn't want another set of sutures. I explained to the nurse, who has also been my nurse when I've been in for sutures. Apparently, he's just like that. He did nothing to help. Whatever medicine he ordered didn't even really help. By the time I was getting in my car, I was already getting anxious again.

Only thing that may help is this hospital does a follow-up call the next business day, and I am definitely complaining.

Sorry, that ended up long... If you made it this far, congrats, here's your gold star!

Terrible that you had such a doctor attend to you. I hope you won't require medical care for SH again, but if you do, I hope you get an understanding and empathic doctor. You deserve good quality care and this ER doctor definitely didn't provide it.

Thank you. I'm really hoping I can sleep. I'm still anxious, it's nearly 2am here, and I'm really restless and agitated. I'm gonna try when I'm done with my cigarette.

Sounds like something happened to me though not for substance cause I'm always at the er they refused to see, me when my life could have been in danger.i was so upset I walked to a nearby store crying and called my mom who sorted it out.my advice is have someone next time to advocate for you or at least be a support person for you

I'm sorry he was such an ***.

May I ask why you opted to go to the regular ER instead of the psych ER?

Thanks.

As for the question:
1. Psych ER is pay to park.
2. It is also a lot farther away from me. I live in the north part of a pretty big city. It is in central area. Traffic is horrendous.
3. Last time I went there, 3 hrs in, hadn't spoken to pdoc or social worker. Asked and it was gonna be another 2 hrs at least. All I needed was something for anxiety.
4. I had never had any problems with the staff at the ER I did go to.

I'm still upset over his reaction to me and the way he was... The nurse even apologized for him and said that I'm not the only patient who has had problems with him...

Hmph.

Got it. So basically both your ER options employ crap people. I'm sorry.

Thanks, everyone, for the replies.

Amanda, I will look at that when I get on my laptop. This phone is a butt sometimes...
