I had quite drinking any type of alcohol because I fount that cutting was better.
I made a promise to not cut anymore to my therapist a few months ago, but instead of cutting I have started having drinks and wanting to party again which I haven't mentioned to her yet. one of my doctors told me not to have any more alcohol, because it is messing up my heart medication. So now what to do, the urge of self abuse is really strong lots of time. so I am confused to whether cut or drink. thoughts of other self harming ways comes up a lot. Anyone have any advice? I am sorry to hear that you are struggling.
![]() Your post makes it sound like you're giving yourself only 2 options, both of which are harmful to you. There are many more choices to make that are healthy. For example, if you have an ice cube handy, just pop one on your palm and let it melt slowly. It causes an intense pain but there are no scars afterwards. Could you make a list of distracting activities that you can engage in when the urges come up? For me exercise is a big one, as well as computer games or watching a show. Sometimes if things are especially bad, I'll take a nap and often just that pause helps. |

Can you find some activity that mimics the self/destructive behavior?
I dont know how would I survive without extreme music so far. There are lots of other things for different tastes. Dark arts of all kinds. I dont like guns but target practice could be the answer for some. |

Ice works really well for me. Also a new thing I've tried is smelling salts. They were impossible to find in stores but I ordered them online. It's a little paper caplet that I shake, pinch, and inhale when I'm overwhelmed and ready to harm. The smell is strong and awful and instantly overpowers all other thoughts long enough to keep me safe.
