hi all not been on here for a long while but im at a stand still and have a lot going on and have again to self harm because i deserve the punishment, its all to much for me at the moment and dont know which way to turn, am currently on a waiting list for therapy, but i see a mental health occupational therapist to get us by a day to day, but its not going to well. i cant stop the self harming as it causes so much comfort to get rid of the flash backs thoughts that run through my head and other things, my husband dosent know about the self harm. how else do you deal with flash back and unplesent and hurtful memories? any suggestions welcome thanks all

I don't know if any of this will be of any help. But here are links to 6 articles, from PsychCentral's archives, that talk about dealing with painful memories:

Learning to Let Go of Past Hurts: 5 Ways to Move On

How to Sit with Painful Emotions

Using Journaling and Meditation to Reclaim Joy

How to Cope with Pain from the Past

Start Living a Life Without Your Inner Demons

My own personal go-to technique for handling these sorts of things is a practice referred to as compassionate abiding. Here's a link to a website that offers a mental-health-oriented description of the practice:

https://mindsetdoc.wordpress.com/201...e-abiding-101/

I wish you well...

Thanks for this!
