Hello,
So i have anxiety and depression as well as an eating disorder. I have been seeing a therapist and dietician for a little over 2 years now. for 3 years now I have been struggling with self harm off and on. But recently it has gotten more frequent. It took me a while, but I have finally told my therapist about it. She took it pretty well. I just want to know what will happen going forward. She wants to tell my dietician for my "safety," but id do not want anyone else to know. It took me years to bring it up to my therapist and I am not ready for other to know. She also wants me to bring in my "tool" that I use. Will she take it away from me? or does she just want to see it and judge how dangerous it is or something? I am pretty anxious and do not know what to expect. It was brought up at the end of my last session, so we did not discuss it much. I am kindof regretting telling her now. |

Hi @Winnie973 That sounds stressful. I don't think that your T should make you tell your dietician. Are the two in contact? Is it part of a treatment team? If so, they may have a consent form from you that says they can talk about your treatment, in which case, you might not be able to stop it. If your T wants you to tell the dietician, you can simply decide not to, if it is not what you want to do and not in your interests. That was a BIG step telling your T and I am proud of you. It takes a lot to trust someone with that knowledge and you did a good job. It may not feel like it now, but it is a step towards healing. I don't know why your T wants you to bring in your tool. Maybe to just evaluate it. I wouldn't think she would take it away from you. But you could simply not bring it in. You could say something like, I'm not comfortable with that right now, but we can discuss it and why you want to see it. That way you don't feel forced into it. If you know the reasons behind it, you may change your mind. Good luck with your T and good luck with your treatment. Safe gentle Hugs, Kit

Thank you for your reply! My dietician and therapist are my team, so i signed releases with them perpitting exchange of info. I was really given no choice and my therapist is going to contact my dietician, who I see tomorrow, so that should be interesting. I love the advise you gave. I will definatily ask my therapist why she wants me to bring it in before/if I do, that was a great suggestion!
