It seems like I have to get an insane amount of blood drawn, for one reason or another, and this week my veins decided to rebel. I have so many needle-stick marks where they poked, and poked, and then dug for gold, and still couldn't get a damn vein to produce anything.

This happened again today in what is usually my "good" arm, which also is the non-scarred arm. The tech decided to try my left arm instead, positioned it as she needed it, saw the scars and said, "That looks like my legs. I used to do that to take away the pain from my migraines. Then my mom found out and that was the end of that."

It isn't the first time I've had a lab tech comment on them and either directly or indirectly ask me to talk about them. Sometimes I don't mind; sometimes I don't want to be bothered. Has this happened to anybody else? How do you deal with it? I mean, I'm all for educating people about SI, and I want to be empathetic to the people who admit also to doing it, but there are days I just don't want to be an ambassador for the dysfunctional. tough veins (possible trigger)

(((((((((((Candy)))))))))))))

Oh yeesh. At least she didn't recoil in fear?

... I thankfully never had to donate blood/get it drawn when I was 'actively' SIng ... and I'm a good healer, so I never had to explain to a doc. My friends however... yeah, some of them know.

"Christina the Emo" ... since apparently that's what it is to SI. (sigh)

Just wanted to offer my sympathies.

Christina I just heard that phrase the other day - kids calling each other "emo".... is that to mean emotional?

Candy bear - I've not had anyone admit si to me upon seeing the scars. I did have one lab tech see them who said nothing and made no sign of noticing them. I guess she saw that I was really not keen on discussing it.

Dunno!

Awh, well you're one of the lucky ones.
There are no SI er's from around where I live that I've seen, and people just look at me in disgust or avoid me completly when they see a scar or two. so i g=just decide to hide them all.

and Christina! I know exactly how you feel.
Vanessa the emo.
catchy, ain't it? unfortunatly.
well, i'm glad that you guys are finding people that are going through the same thing.

I always thought emo stood for emotional mosher... but Ive had enough with the labels, theyre pointless.

I've never really experienced this either, but I think that it is good that she didnt react to it
