Soo I spent 40 plus hours on a final group project with OUT my group, heh we get it back D... a %#@&#! D... I almost cried on spot! Now I just wanna use ALL the office supplies in site and destroy my body for me being sooo stupid, might as well become a college drop out now!

Katt Babes, it is really tough when that happens, but please do not be disheartened. More importantly please do not take it out on yourself - it simply isn't worth it. Speak to your tutor about it - it may be possible to have your grade improved, but if not what he says will help for future projects, whether at college or in the workplace. You are doing really well on your course - I recall you saying you'd won some award for being such a great student, so one dodgy coursework really doesn't matter.

Aw cmon Spaz, one bad grade does not a failure make. Did you explain to your prof that your group was nowhere to be found and you did all the work yourself? It really works, I've had to do it before. I took a website design course several years ago and we were broken up into groups and given the assignment of putting together websites for actual companies that needed them. I spent 12 hours a day on that friggin thing for 6 weeks, and one of the other team members, who had a toddler and was pregnant again, did that too, as much as she could. The third team member did diddly-squat. She never showed up for meetings, she never did a lick of work, she just showed up in the lab the night before to see what Linda and I had done.

Anyway, it was supposed to be a group grade, but Linda and I told the professor about this other person's complete nonparticipation. Linda and I got A's. The other chick got a well deserved F.

Really. Professors have your best interests at heart. (I know. I am one. :-) Just talk to him/her and see what you can do.

In the meantime, take a few deep breaths and tell yourself it's not the end of the world, because it isn't. Honest and truly. I promise. (And I have 2 degrees, so I've been through this a lot. :-)

Katt, I read about your efforts to complete a group project minus group from another post you have writtten, I believe, and from chat...

You did some brilliant work in actually completing the task yourself. I think you need to talk to your teacher and point out that you had to do all the work yourself because of the non-participation of the others.

Please don't cut: you've managed to go without for at least a week now, haven't you? You don't deserve to hurt yourself. You did the work required of you and because of the nature of the assessment, a sole effort was not enough to pull good grades in group work. You did what was asked of you and you coped as well you could with it and I think it is unrealistic to ask any more of yourself. Lik I said, try talking to your teacher and explain what happened. Hopefully he will be understanding and make an allowance for you.

My guess is that the prof could tell the work was done all by one person. Since it was a group project....that didn't get the group very far. Bummer city.

Remember - Katt didn't get the bad grade. The assignment did. Katt not bad. The group participants let YOU down, girl. So don't kick Katt. Go find them and kick them...well, just kidding. No kicking.

And, btw.... giMUNGus is my new favorite word.

OMG, Katt hun, I misinterpreted what you said as meaning that it was meant to be without your group. The D reflects THEIR non-participation and NOT the good work which you undoubtedly did. You HAVE to speak to your tutor about this.

Did you by any chance get to complete some kind of group evaluation? A lot of my projects involved one of those and sometimes, I was brutally honest.

If not, think of it this way. If the members of your "group" (and I use that term loosely) are in your major, you now have a good idea who you DO NOT / WILL NOT work with again.

Talk to the prof anyway, he/she may do nothing, but on the other hand, they may be sympathetic, and at least you know you tried. You'll always wonder if you don't.

Katt, have you told your prof that you did the entire project by yourself? If I were you, I would tell him/her because they might give you some slack and fail the rest of the group, as they deserve. I really strongly urge to at least try it. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain here!!
