I was kind of bothered that he was popular, because I liked Donny Osmond and felt this was competition, LOL! |

I wonder...do they have teenzines any more? Cassidy and Osmounds were frequently pictured. My cousin often bought those and I bought comic books ( long before they were called graphic novels) for a quarter apiece then switched. The thick comics were a quarter and the smaller ones a dime. We would walk down to the general gas store that had a bate shop on one side and general merchandise on the other. My older sister often bought mystery thriller true crimes magazines. I think magazines are on the way out too.

Looking at National Geographics to find naked breasts on native women...At the age of 8 or 9, we'd never seen "real breasts" before. We'd scope out the bra ads in the Sears Catalog but, alas, no nipple pictures. Things were much more innocent back then...even if little boys we still horny little devils.

Speaking of National Geographic... I recall when you had to be "nominated" for membership by an existing member before you could receive the magazine... My grandmother nominated me...

I still get "Reader's Digest."
I saw "Fruit Stripe" gum in the "Dollar Tree" today! I, too, got some education by looking at the pics in "National Geographic"! All those naked men! On our party line, different families had different rings, so they would know when to pick up---like one long or two shorts. And I remember all those decent TV shows like "The Lone Ranger" and "The Roy Rogers show." I watch reruns of them sometime. Of course, the stations went off at midnight and came back on early in the morning, but I don't remember how early. |

I remember where I was when I heard Elvis Presley died.
I remember when Mt. Saint Helens blew, and the little bags of volcanic ash that showed up for sale (in Illinois). I never understood pet rocks. |

I remember JFK but not Elvis.
I do remember St Helen as my uncle had been climbing there just a week before Never got the pet rock thing either, but I did like the mood rings and lava lamps! __________________ Nammu …Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. LOL, I just remembered today how we use to treasure our roller skate key and if you didn't have one around your neck you weren't in, the in crowd.....lol.
Also, along with a pogo stick I had this ring that went around my ankle with a ball attached to it that I would swing with my one leg and jump over it with another. Jacks, Pickup sticks, and marbles. Red Rover, and Kick the can, dodge ball, and 7 up. Anyone remember these? https://www.flickr.com/photos/60585948@N00/8445530819/ I am liking this thread, ty travelinglady |

I remember all those things although I lived in the country and skates only had a square of cemented pavement by the garage so I didn't see the purpose of carrying a key. I got a pair of kids skis one Christmas and lacking any hills I claimed the garage to ski down...boy talk about your life flashing! Ha ha those were the days.

how lovely to have you join us, Hair~! yes, i remember roller skates that clamped onto hard-soled shoes~! we used to use those shoes for ice skates.... start in the snow on the bank and get a good running start, and slide when we hit the ice.... cheap thrills on the river~
