Yes, children were to be seen & not heard!

I grew up in an elderly extended family. The next youngest person to me was my mother. All of the relatives I grew up with (except my mother & father) had been born in the late 19th century. And so I spent a not insignificant amount of time, during my growing up years, going to funerals as each one of them died off. I can still recall standing at the gravesides. There's a song by Judy Collins I'm fond of titled "Secret Gardens" that always takes me back to those times. Here's a link to a YouTube video of it:

My Barbie doll had red hair and bangs and stood on her tippy-toes. She had a friend named Midge and a little sister named Skipper. My friend had the Ken doll. I remember that his arms disarticulated so you could get him into his tight, broadcloth button down shirt. My grandmother's friend like to make doll hats so I had a whole collection of very unusual hats for Barbie.

I'm not a baby boomer, but I still see some gas station bathrooms like this. Sometimes you have to ask them for the key.

Remember when finding a penny was a lucky thing? Now nobody bothers to pick it up.

Remember the big gun like air jet vaccine injection? That was scary, much worse than a needle.

I remember in … oh-h-h... 4th or 5th grade I think it probably was... a girl in our class, whom I sat not that far away from, pee'd her pants in class. I can still remember the puddle it created on the floor under her chair.

I recall that in 8th grade (I think it may have been) I puked in math class...

Penny candy. And when I was little I used to think “Necco Wafers” were called “nickel wafers” because they cost a nickel. As did candy bars. Small Tootsie Rolls were longer.

I don't understand it now, but I Really loved them in their moment.
I recall a pair of earrings I had, large paper mache balls painted an awful abstract of yellow, orange, green, outlined in black...my fringed suede jacket, my happy bare feet on the road to a three day festival...
Stringing dried beans after soaking them in warm, colored waters...
