Millennial parents say well-meaning boomers are gifting junk to their grandkids — and it's time to stop

I definitely wouldn't give the gifts back. I don't have any grandchildren. but I think that would hurt my feelings. I think I'd love to take my grandkids shopping after giving them some money. One of my aunts did that for me when I was a kid--and I still even remember what I bought--some Lincoln Logs!

I overdid it with my kids, but most buys were at yard sales. My parents weren't wealthy, so Christmas was a big deal for me. I loved looking through those Sears and Roebuck toy catalogs!

I ask my daughter what to buy for my toddler grandson, most of the time. I think it’s important to follow kids’ guidelines.

We used to buy a lot for our 8 year old granddaughter but she would leave most stuff to play with in our house instead of taking to her own! Then our house was cluttered. We stopped it. We cut it way down. Less is more.

Giving gifts back is a bit much. Kind of hurtful

Ouch. How mean. My grandkids very much like what I purchased for them. Yes they have oodles of toys and stuff. But I consult my daughter on what to buy. My grandson often gets gift cards for x box so he can pick out his own skins and accessories for his games and my granddaughter get lots of art kits. She goes though then at a fantastic rate. My daughter puts some up for rainy or sick days so she has something to do.

Yay, me! I don’t do any of that. But my daughter does tell the kids to hug me when I leave. I don’t feel like telling her it’s fine. She does it less now with the older one. So I leave that up to them to work out.
