I have sexual addiction, and often wonder how much of the recovery is harder because of my mental illness. The very condition of an addict in this area is that he/she has an intimacy disorder. But let's take someone who doesn't have an addiction but is mentally ill. They tend to isolate themselves, which is a form of intimacy disorder. So now you have someone who has both problems, and he really wants to isolate and act out because he really has an intimacy disorder.
I act out and isolate when my stomach is nervous for whatever reason. That sense of security isn't there. For whatever reason there are two ways I deal with it - acting out, which floods the brain with dopamine, creating feel good chemicals.. or I resist acting out and I isolate, and probably act on my OCD.
