I had a baby in November and during my pregnancy I was cleared of everything. After the baby was born I was my 8 week post pardum check up and pap and was diagnosed with HPV. A few months later I had a horrible herpes out break on my genitals. I then had a biopsy because of the HPV, they asked me at that time if I wanted to be tested for everything, I said yes. Well, I had my follow up. I discovered I was cancer free but had f*&^%ing Hepatitis B. I was devastated. I've been in a monogamous relationship for 3 years now. The HPV, I couldn't necessarily put on him because it's so common. The Herpes lays dormant for years, couldn't necessarily say it was him for that either.. but Hepatitis B. The only other thing I can think of is I just got a tattoo about three weeks ago. What do ya'll think of this

How shocking! Are you okay?
If they didn't sterilize the needle then I believe its possible to get it from a tattoo. But as far as I'm aware they're required to throw out used needles. Or at least they should be. __________________ |

My mom got Hep B in the 70s...not from sexual contact, she thinks it was from a needle at the doctor's office or something. You never know. I hope you will be OK.

To Google! Chaaarge!
You could get hepatitis B from being born to a mother with hepatitis B having sex with an infected person being tattooed or pierced with unsterilized tools that were used on an infected person getting an accidental needle stick with a needle that was used on an infected person using an infected person’s razor or toothbrush sharing drug needles with an infected person http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddise...ubs/hepb_ez/#5 __________________ |

Reputable tattoo places should show you the needles in sealed packs before they start, did you see that?
I would make some serious enquiries to my partner if I were you. Regardless of whether they've given you anything, they need to know so they can get tested, but also I'd be asking if they wanted to tell me if something was going on. It's not nice news though, might take a while to hit, but take care of yourself and make sure you deal with the emotional side of all this too. |

Hep B is bloodborne so then, like in the Twinrix commercials, you could get it from spa equipment (nail clippers etc) or improperly sterilized anything that has blood on in.
The HPV, could be any form of common wart so even if you're monogamous if he had the virus from touching someone who had it who had recently touched a wart they had or something....1/4 ppl or something have been exposed to it, so yeah, its common. Herpes is pretty common too and it could be that you have oral herpes on your genitals too. So there is that possibility. That sucks though. But there is medication to lessen symptoms for all of them and treat as well. Wish you the best! |

I'm so sorry youOme this must be so hard!
The one thing that comes to mind is, it might be worth getting your partner tested immediately for everything. It is important both for his health and you obviously have a stake in it too. This is a lot to deal with at once, you're taking it pretty amazing. Stay safe! |

Just because the tattooist opens a set of disposable needles in front of you doesn't necessarily mean you can't get sick from Hepatitis B/C . The sterile needles become contaminated if the shaft in the tattoo gun where the needle slides through isn't sterilized as well. Either the shaft should be disposable or autoclaved for sterilization along with the needles.

Unfortunately, there is a huge stigma attached to STD's and getting diagnosed with something is devastating.
I was diagnosed with Herpes2 (genital) a little over a year ago. I assumed I got it from my friend with benefits who I'd been having sex with for about 6 months, but like you said, the virus can lay dormant for years so there's really no way to tell who you got it from unless ALL your previous sexual partners are tested. It was very hard for me to handle emotionally after my diagnosis and I shyed away from dating because of it. If the word "herpes" was even brought up in conversation, I got nervous... BUT I've also done a lot of talking to my doctor and a lot of research online. There is a ton of support online for people who have lifelong std's to deal with and ultimately, it is something you can deal with and live a happy life with including with your partner. As long as you take the daily antivirals, you should be okay. If your relationship does not work out and you move on with somene else, be sure to practice safe sex and be open and honest. As soon as you realize the stigma can actually be worse than the viruses you have, you'll be fine. |
