So, I've come out to my parents as being bi-sexual already. My mom doesn't really accept it, but she doesn't talk about it either, my dad is very accepting and loves me for who I am. Recently I've decided that I want to be male (I'm currently a female). I'm really afraid to tell my parents. I've been trying to bring myself to tell them for a long time... I haven't yet. I've told three really close friends, but I'm still afraid to tell my mom and dad.
Help/advice?

Hey XxlifexX,

First of all,

Coming out as transgender can be really intense. Be prepared to explain what it means and why you feel this way (which unfortunately is no easy task!) Do some research into transgender issues, so you are prepared if your parents have any questions for you. And try to work with them on this, don't alienate them at the first sign of rejection. It can take a lot to process the news that your child wants to transition to another gender.

If you want to talk to someone about this, you are free to PM me on here; I began my transition to female years ago, and am now living my life as a normal woman. I also am friends with plenty of trans guys, so any questions you ask me that I can't answer, I can find out from my friends!

Good luck,
Hanners

I think it takes a lot of courage to want to be just who you are - that is a great decision! Would you ever consider seeing a therapist to discuss the issue with your parents and then asking them to come into a session with you?
Thanks for this!

I do see a therapist. I've never brought up these feelings before in a meeting, talking about them with people who I'm not close to makes me feel uncomfortable. But now that my parents know I'm going to talk to my therapist about it.

You should do whatever makes you happy in this life. You only live once like they say.

Please do not worry about what your parents will think because it is your life and you have to be happy.

If your parents cannot or will not accept this part of you, then do it anyhow because you have to take care of #1 in life, and #1 is you.

PLEASE BE HAPPY!
