A child in a day care makes up lies about her teacher exposing himself to her following the difficult situation in the family, her brother showing her a willie on a tablet etc. It's very easy to influence child's imagination.
And it is scary for anyone working with children, at least it is unnerving for me. I mean I don't work with children, but if some kid makes up a story accusing you of something, and how do you prevent it. I have no idea. I guess any occupation has its drawbacks. Haven't seen that. There's systems in place, when working with children to help prevent false allegations. I don't believe that it's very common.

I have worked in child care for 8 years, and currently I am studying Early Childhood Education. You are right. The thought of being wrongfully accused of sexually abusing a child is terrifying. I was physically abused by a babysitter when I was 8, and it bordered on sexual abuse. My parents didn't take it seriously when my sisters and I told them what happened, and asked the babysitter to come back the following week. She did the same thing again, and although we never had that babysitter again, my parents never reported the abuse to the police. They never told us what she did was wrong. I shudder to think of what else that babysitter has done since then.

We tend to put practices in place to avoid that kinda of situation - two teachers in a classroom for example.
I guess you need to just be aware of the surroundings and don't put yourself in a situation where you're locked away from a group. |
