I couldn't find a more suitable place to place this thread.

I am curious how masturbation ties in with our mental health issues.
Why do we have specific fantasies? some which seem strange even to ourselves.
Masturbation, pleasure, addiction, mental health, how does it all relate?
It's a broad topic, I know, let's just see where it takes us.
Thanks for this!

I started have fantasies when I started thinking about them.. I think I was 'playing' with my thoughts: I've always did it even before puberty, I thought about different levels of consciousness and things related. When I talked about that with my parents they were just like 'meh' or 'yeah that's how our mind works' so I kept playing in a sense.. even during masturbation. When I did it it's like I felt a danger but I thought nothing bad could have happened to me, I remember this. So I kept doing it and it evolved to something I don't like..

Imho this is too broad. Can you ask something specific?

Ok, let's start at the beginning.

Why do you think we masturbate?

And if you wish to speculate further...

Do motives behind masturbation change?

Yes, for me motives behind masturbation changes based on many factors.

Why do I masturbate... umm I'm feeling good, it feels good, I need to sleep and can't seem to shut down, it's relaxing. And well, for me, I really only feel comfortable when I'm taking care of my own sexual needs. My few reasons.
Thanks for this!

having got caught at a young age by my mother it became a "shameful" act for me ... did not stop but did drift to "bondage" to allow my warped mind to say not me ... I am being forced ... ah the games we play from twisted childhood issues ...

at 59 and the meds it seems I am only the least bit interested about once a month ... then only once ... like my monthly male period ... lol ...

For my, I used masturbation as a way to connect with myself and meditate. I practiced tantrtic yoga and martial arts and combined the relaxatuon i got from sexual release with my focus. Masturbation shold never be something to be ashamed of... so tired of people making eachother feel like monsters for doing it...
