I've had a very severe sleep disorder for about 18 months, which included severe sleep apnea. I've been on multiple sleep medications and CPAP. I lost many friends on 9-11. I haven't yet been able to figure out if there is any association between certain events in my day and the nights that I have horrific dreams, but I wonder if there is an association. There are nights that I am awakened to flashbacks of the aircraft flying into the World Trade Center, sreams of people jumping/falling from the World Trade Center, and a smell of burning flesh and jet fuel. There are nights that I awaken to other horrific events. I am fried.

Hi FequentFlyer. It sounds like you may have post traumatic stress disorder. You can develop that from losing people you care about. Especailly in such a traumatic way as 9/11. Nightmares can be caused by PTSD. You should go see a therapist or psychiatrist about it. There are alot of things that can help you with the nightmares.

Dear Frequentflyer, Sounds like a close association to me! Often, too, events of the day will enter into dreams in some capacity that night. Re the Trade Center and other horrific events dreams, are you saying that you awaken and then flashback to these events/dreams or that you dream them and then awaken? Sounds like you may be working through these events, if they are dreams. If they are flashbacks, you may be having PTSD and require some counseling by a professional experienced in this type flashback. Could any of this be medication/drug related?
