I have had the same dream probably a hundred times or so. I have even had it twice in the same night. Everything is the exact same and I wake up startled, but not freaked out.
DREAM:
I am running down a street in my neighborhood being chased by someone. I see a garage door closing and I run up to it right as it shuts before I could slide under it. I turn around and the person chasing me has a gun pointed at me. I never get shot in the dream, but I can hear a gunshot right before I wake up. Also I don't know what the person chasing me looks like, just the gun (revolver).

Any ideas? My best friend lived on that street growing up, and the police chief lived a few houses down from him. I never got chased like that before.

When I was younger, I used to always have the same dream/nightmare kind of similar to yours. I would be chased by a bull through fields which are just across from my house and I had this dream a lot. But in a way the fact I had the same dream all the time was good because then I came to the realisation that it was a dream and not real, and dreams can't harm you physically, sure you can have sensations but no harm can come of it. After that realisation, as soon as the recurring dream started I could change it and in fact I have never been chased by that bull again since. Especially as I killed it (in the dream, not a real bull).

I don't try to interpret dreams, I don't look for meaning. they all come from your sub-conscious thoughts. I just try to enjoy them, if I have one I don't like I change it

In your dream, when you know you are dreaming (important!!). Just stop running and face the person chasing you, they can't kill or harm you. What's the worst they can do? You will still wake up in the morning.

Recurring dreams can be a symptom of PTSD. Dreams are an important way of the brain trying to file away stuff. When we have something happen in the past that is traumatic these things can get stuck in a loop where it doesn't get filed away properly and keeps coming back.

Therapy is good to try to help with trauma.

One way you can help to give this dream a nudge is to really think how you would like this dream to end. Remember in a dream you can do/be anything you want. Thinking about the ending to that dream before dropping off to sleep can help to get that dream filed into the correct part of the brain. It might take a few tries but eventually you can help it to be resolved.

I've never know I was in a dream while I was dreaming... but I'll try to control it. Thanks you two!
