When I wake up after sleeping I feel as though I have been running and I feel just as exhausted if not more than when I first went to sleep. Many times I feel as though I am out of breath and it is hard to breath. My head feels as though I am in a haze and sometimes I cannot tell where I am for sure or if I am okay.
For a while after I wake up, I feel confused and wonder if I did something when I was sleeping. Or if I was really sleeping at all. Even at times when I think I have slept a long time I can wake up and look at the clock and I have only been asleep for 30 minutes or so but it feels as though I have been there for hours. Many times I feel scared of something yet I cannot put my finger on it. In many instances, I can be sleeping and feel as though at first I am huge and everything around me is so tiny that when I reach for something my hands are so giant that I cannot get what I am reaching for. Then in an instant things will change around and I shrink to so tiny and everything around me is suffocating me. I cannot get away from anything and things feel as though they are going to swallow me up. And I cannot get away. It is scary and I am so exhausted when I do awake and everything seems so unreal and at times I feel unreal. I just cannot seem to stop this from happening. When I feel I have been running forever, I cannot seem to remember what I was running from or where I am running to. But I am out of breath and afraid. This happens pretty much everytime I go to sleep. And what feels like an eternity is really only a little while. I feel as though I am losing it and I am crazy. At least that is what it feels like. Can anyone tell me what is possibly going on or has anyone experienced this at all? Just scared. I would rather stay awake than to feel this way. Thank you for listening. dps |

The breathing thing sounds like it could be sleep apnea... If it is that, it could be causing everything else you've mentioned. Speak to your doctor about it, they can do tests, but you have to be admitted to hospital for a night so they can monitor your breathing while you sleep.
I hope this helps. ![]()
