I have been having a recurring dream for years, and I am wondering if someone can figure out what it means...

In the dream I am standing on a dark residential street. I am facing a man who I assume is a complete stranger to me (I cannot see his face). The man has a rather large handgun pointed at me and neither of us is saying anything. I stand there for awhile waiting for him to pull the trigger and when he fails to do so, I turn around to walk away. As I do, I hear the sound of the gun being cocked and then fired. I feel the bullet hit the back of my head and explode through my brain. And that's it.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

All I could think is that maybe you had a relationship that was going nowhere, maybe there was a problem with communication. You could not understand him or maybe yourself and you didn't know how to express yourself to him. You may have thought for a long time that it was going to end. You waited for him to end it. Then it ended in a conflict that hurt you. A recurring dream is something significant, so I hope you figure out what it is about. Maybe when you do, you'll stop having it.

I appreciate the input. I have been having this dream since I was in my late teens (I am 35 now) with it occuring 3-4 times a year. I just started seeing a therapist, maybe he can figure it out.
