"People who talk about their dreams are actually trying to tell you things about themselves they’d never admit in normal conversation." - Chuck Klosterman

So tell me, does anybody have any reoccurring dreams? What happens, and how long have you been having it?

For years I've had dreams where my teeth fall out - I've heard this is a really common one. It's bizarre though, I wonder what it means.

Also, before I learnt to drive I would have dreams almost weekly in which I had to get behind the wheel of a car because of some emergency (like running away from a murderer, or taking someone to the hospital). I had no idea what I was doing and the car was completely out of control, it was terrifying.

Okay, your turn.

Hi,
Dreams are about what is happening in your sleep. Your everyday thoughts impact on your dreams.
You often think about loosing your teeth and your subconscious uses your apprehension about them to frighten you awake! We all need a waking dream.
Before you started driving lessons you were apprehensive about going on the roads (spaghetti junctions or kamikaze islands) are very frightening to new drivers!
Reoccuring dreams are caused by similar problems happening in sleep. Getting strangled regularly mean some breathing difficultie in sleep.

I'm flying in a week (I'm terrified!) and ever since I booked the tickets a year ago I've been having recurring aeroplane dreams. They're really stupid! The most vivid ones I had were:

I'm shopping with my family, and there's a plane hovering in the sky. Just hovering, it's really bright and silvery, and everyone in the street has stopped to look up at marvel at the skill of the pilot, hovering this plane, and also at the shininess.
Just as I say 'it's very high' the plane suddenly drops to the ground! There's fire crew and stuff and then we're in an orchard with some children, for some reason.

Also had a really stupid one where I was on a massive plane - so massive it had its own Olympic sized swimming pool! - and I'm swimming in the pool when we can see out of the window that the plane is crashing. Everyone starts freaking out until a voice comes over the intercom. It's the pilot, and the plane's not crashing at all - he just played a simulator video of one crashing to scare us! Ha! Ha!

So they're quite silly dreams but very frequent! I also dream a lot of really common stuff which apparently symbolises me running away from my worries. I often dream of running from something, or hiding. And for a period I dreamed of pregnancies a lot! Every night a different one of my friends was pregnant.

Otherwise I have pretty mundane dreams!

For about 2 years I have this dream once at least month... each time I am talking to a different person.

"in the dream I am chewing gum and as I walk up to someone I swallow the gum. As I try to talk to them but I cannot because the gum is my throat. I try to pull it out and it comes out in ribbons of goo. It will not stop. So I yank harder and it feels like its pulling my stomach out. I cut it off and throw it in the trash can. Again I try to talk and more gum comes out. I wake up."

I do not chew gum.

Sweet, the first one, with the teeth...I have had that. When I wake, I am really sore in my teeth adn jaws. I am grinding my teeth...it was really bad just before the repressed memories started surfacing. I think maybe i was dreaming about the memories, but never remembered them when awake.
The second one, I would guess, at that age you felt like your life was out of control and you felt like you had to take charge, because (guessing) the adults were not dependable. You knew you had no idea what you were doing, but were forced to take control out of survival.
I have had both type of dreams...often the car dreams are different, sometimes I am in the drivers seat. Sometimes someone else is driving. When someone else is driving is when I feel like someone in my life is trying to control me or make decisions that i am not in agreement with.
When I was on Seroquel ( had to stop taking it) I would have this horrible dream over and over: I would be driving in the car and hubby in passenger seat...I would be on the interstate adn going at a high rate of speed. Then there would be bumper-to-bumper traffic ahead, but i could not slow down. The cars ahead of me were slowed to a crawl and I was still speeding along, coming up fast. Then a smi in front of me, in my lane would explode, bursting into flames. I would not be able to stop and would speed into the flames and crash...I would not be able to wake until the impact. Then I would wake in a cold sweat and full panic. I would be so afraid to go to sleep again. I was exhausted. I finally ( after 2 weeks) made an appointment with my primary doc...he took me off the med. He said it was an adverse reaction of the med. The vivid violent dreams and inability to wake up. I knew it was a dream, but could not wake myself.
I hope this helps in some small way. Good luck and much support...

Thank you for the interpretation, that's a really cool way of looking at it and it makes a lot of sense. I definitely wouldn't have thought about it like that before.

I had a reoccuring dream when I was younger. Something to do with getting locked out of the house while bringing in groceries and being chased (I think) into a sewer by a scary black cat. It was really weird. I had that dream lots, and I think about it a lot now.

I also used to have a dream where I was in the car with my family, and the car was being tailgated. The car in front turned and blocked the road, as did the car behind us. We were attacked by my sister's ex and some friends of his. I wake up every time I was shot.

I've had others, but I can't remember them anymore.

My dreams now just tend to have something to do with my writing or are induced by heartburn/acid reflux :P

And someone's there next to you holding your hand

You'll be fine

Someone's there next to you holding you
Along the paths you walk

Yes, all the time. Also, sometimes I have dreams where in my dream I am saying "I have had this dream before, I know this is a dream" yet I can't stop myself from thinking it's weird. When I wake up I can't remember if I had actually had that dream before or not.. I think it's probably because we don't remember all of our dreams, and in fact we remember a very small percentage of them. We have so many dreams and some nights I don't remember any. I also have a lot of reoccuring dreams about driving and getting lost, and I used to have them about drowning, normally also while in a vehicle. We would crash in the water and I would wake up. So vehicles are definitely a big part of the dreams I have. Another one is people breaking into our home, and sometimes it's people from my own family.. I hate dreams they are so weird, and make you wake up feeling so happy and then realizing "oh it was just a dream.." or make you wake up from a nightmare drenched in sweat and shaking to pieces.

I had a dream two nights ago and. It woke me up and all. I can remember is that my boyfriend had commited suicide and all of sudden. I heard his voice and saw him and. I said woah who are you and what'd the hell happened to you then. I only remember was that he told me you don't remember anything and. I said if you scare me like the way you did before? I would've said yea now since you brought it up. I do believe you're crazy for thinking of ending your life. I couldn't begin to fathom at all what you've put me through this drama but. I believe you need to stop asap!!!!

Most of my dreams are x-rated. *shifty eyes* This doesn't mean they're always what I would call “good.” Many of them are about worst case real-life scenarios I think may happen to me. In school, I had frequent dreams about getting in trouble in the hallway for being late to class.

My favorite dreams have always become story ideas. I love it when I dream about my characters, but usually I end up stuck with the really creepy bad guys for some reason... I really shouldn't make my villains and anti-heros such total freaks.. Like there's this one dude who totally HATES the idea of any sort of god whatsoever. Well, because he knows I created him (he's nothing more than a figment of my imagination), he's always trying to kidnap me and turn me into some kind of bondage slave! At least I know how to get into their heads.
