When I was a kid, I really thought one of the benefits of being an adult was that nightmares went away. You didn't have to deal with them any more. Too bad that isn't true. I hate nightmares. It was really bad last night.

Quote:
Nightmares are an important part of sleep. Many things may happen during sleep that needs to be dealt with while you're awke. Couhing fits, burping food up, acid refluxes, and most importantly, if the urge to vomit comes on during sleep you need a nightmare to wake you up very quickly. People who take drugs or sleep medicines often need a strong, violent dream to wake them. IN chidlhood most of the nightmares are caused digestion problems, alleries to some foods and fear of abandonment by the mother. |

It's my experience that the dreams get a bit less intense and nightmareish as one has less psychological problems during the day when we're awake. I imagine the cave people had a lot of nightmares (of saber tooths and woolly mammoths getting them?) since they had so much more literal scary stuff and adapting going on?
