I just want to know if anyone else had nightmares when they were a child. Not just some sort of kiddy bad dream, but something kind of sick and twisted. I did when I was younger. I was 8 and my nightmares involved decapitation, mutilation and other fairly screwed up things. More notably it was members of my family who suffered.

I have had nightmares fairly recently. Quite a bit more disturbing than I had when I was young. Involving cannibalism and death mainly.

I'm just kind of curious is all.

I have had similar involving family members, so you are not alone. Sometimes perhaps we cannot directly express negative feelings about family, but I am no expert. Godajamar seems to have considerable knowledge. Not sure if that is correct spelling of his/her name, but he/she offers what appears to be excellent interpretive explanations.

I think everyone has bad nightmares when they're children; the world is so unknown and scary to a child and dreams are how we sort it out. We couldn't get mad at our caretakers for fear of abandonment so had to use our dreams to keep on a more or less even keel. A nightmare is a nightmare; most dreams, even as adults, are unpleasant, having to do with anxiety. The fun or wholly comfortable and happy dream is rare. http://www.meaningofdreams.org/dream_themes/anxiety.htm
