When I try to sleep, I hear small voices. They could be voices I heard during the day or they could be voices which call out my name. When I was trying to sleep, I heard a little voice call my name out. I'm not scared of them. For some strange reason they make me feel comfy and I'm used to them. I heard a woman say my name out and a friend's voice said something when I was trying to sleep and the voice made me jump. Sometimes the small voices don't speak sometimes. One time, When I was trying to sleep the voices were louder than they usually were and it scared me because they kept interrupting me. I have recognised that when I'm more stressed they speak more often. I don't hear voices during the day. When I'm relaxed and on my bed I sometimes hear voices which I experience when I try to sleep. Has anyone experienced this? Is this normal?

Okay. Do you mean voice and conversation in your mind? or do you actually hear someone's voice? Everyone hears and has a conversation in their mind. But hearing actual voice is a different story.

I hear short phrases and that in my mind but I can hear them. It's hard to describe. I don't hear a real voice like if I heard someone in a conversation. I just wondered if people have experienced this before.

Hi,
This is quite normal when you're under some stress. In the process of getting off to sleep, some parts of the body and brain relax slowly and need to catch up. Your subconscious creates these noises, or images to wake you and start the sleeping process again.

Yes like gojamadar said it's pretty normal. It's a level of hypnagogia. It will happen right before you drift off. You can hear your name being called out or jarbled or, random sentences. They can wake you up right before you drift off. It can actually be annoying at times. Some people get hypnagogic jerks. Where there body jerks right before falling asleep. And they may have that "falling feeling". Yours is quite similar to that, just a different response.

I have heard of hypnagogia. I sometimes have hypnoagogic jerks as well. Last night the top of my arms and body jerked. Even my arms jerk a little when I'm awake.

Doesn't everyone get that to some degree or another? You see it all the time in class, people jerking back to consiousness as they drift off.

I think most people get it. I haven't seen people in class jerking back to consiousness as they drift off.

Yep, usually voices of people I know just saying my name or sometimes other daily sounds like the doorbell or a thump. Mostly on really stressed days, like part of my brain is just reluctant to shut down for the night.

That happens to me too. I hope it doesn't scare you.
