It's odd, i haven't had issues with insomnia for a really long time.. like.. for 4 years now almost.. granted at first it was cause i was highly medicated so trying to be awake was just about as hard as getting to sleep on normal days. lol!

But I also was taking Vyvanse for a long time, and found i just suddenly lost the insomnia issues i had in the past when i wasn't on klonapin, cymbalta, buspar, along with a few others. But vyvanse is a stumlant i believe, which i find werid because i fall asleep on it instead of it waking me up (i mean it DOES wake me up but after about intial bam i could sleep and often would get tired and need naps and sleep at night too!)

I had this issue a lot when i was in high school, but most of it was cause i didn't want to goto sleep so i stayed up..

Now i'm so bodily achey and tired and like my body craves sleep but when i go and lay down all i do is lay there... after about 20 mins of laying there i start tossing and turning (the adhd side of me) -i even piss my cat off and she'll end up leaving me during the night to go sleep on the floor or the couch. lol.
But all i can get for sleep is about 3hrs a night... and i'm feeling the effects of not getting enough sleep, as i normally have been sleeping 8-10 hrs a night for a few years.. up until a few weeks ago.. and it only seems to be getting worse.. and so is my adhd .. normally I have like 98% ADD, and 2%ADHD, and it feels like it's totally flopped on me... like when i was a kid before i hit teenhood.
(my insurance decided to not cover adult add/adhd therapy or meds this year as well, so i'm stuck with no aid in those areas)

But i just dont know what to do. ...
I'm on a no caffiene diet due to having dehydration issues all the time without adding extra stressors in the mix of it. (another reason why even if i could get vyvanse right now, i wouldn't be taking it).

I know the 30 mins down 30 mins up rule doesn't work for me because I just lay there for 30 mins.. not only keeping an eye on the clock for the 30 mins to roll around, but also when i lay there my body rests and after i get up -even tho i didnt fall asleep - but it's like my body will be awake and my mind will be ready to sleep ..

(my problem seems to be, my body is tired, and my mind is well awake... OR it will be the opposite and my mind is in a "blah - no thinking - tired" mood, and my body is well awake).

UGH! No fun at all

Are you going to bed at the same time every night? Exercising a few hours before sleep regularly? Avoiding watching televsion, playing video games, and computer for about an hour before bed? What do you do to slow down each night? Have you tried listening to relaxing sounds and tones as you lie down to sleep? Is your room quiet and dark, during sleeptime?

Just some relatively easy Q's to answer & maybe change to help yourself fall into a better pattern. If that doesn't work, be sure to mention the difficulty to your doctor. You may need a medication to help you relax more. But, I'd definitely start off with the others things mentioned. Then, go to your doc from there if you need more help.

Hi Lexi,

I can relate. I've had recent trouble sleeping too...
Have you tried anything that helps?
Maybe an over the counter antihistamine could help a bit... Sounds like the best thing would be to get back to the doc though if there was any way. Maybe it would help to tailor your meds again or have a sleep study done. Insurance is a total drag. I hope you get yours back soon - and I hope you are able to get some rest.

E.

Shezbut, I'll try some of those out. Some I already try. Other's I don't. lol :-) Thanks!!

Elana, Well.. the other night i ended up in the er (due to other physical issues), and they gave me pain meds which knocked me out.. so when i got home they prescribed me some which I got and took along with benedryl and I fell asleep for a while.. had a hang over of sleepies for a good day after that though. So... I'm back to where I was before I took those meds....
I'm going to try to make an appointment with my family doc and see if she can help me any...
Thanks, and I hope you sleep well!

I am having the same problem tonight. My mind is racing, my body is crying out for sleep, every nerve is on edge. When I try to lay down, they feel of the sheets on my skin hurts, my legs crawl, my mind speeds up and I can't shut it down. I am so tired, i want sleep. I have a busy day today and tomorrow, I need to sleep. i don't have any problems sleeping during the day. I wonder why that is?

Good idea making an appointment with your family doc. I was up last night at 2:00; I go to sleep and then wake after 2-4 hours and can't get back to sleep despite being sleepy but I think mine is age-related (I'm 60). I found this site really good:
