i get it. i need sleep as a person but for some reason, and i dont know why, i cant stop sleeping. it is almost as if when i am in bed and under the covers that i feel safe- like nothing can hurt me. i feel protected and it scares me to know that i cant stand to be awake. how do i make it so i am not sleeping as much and i am not tired ALL the time?

I posted something similar a while back but got no reply. And I don't know how to solve it just yet. I've just woken from a 12 hour sleep and I have a migraine. I know exactly what you mean when you say you don't want to face things when you wake up. All I can tell you is you're not alone with that issue.
Thanks for this!

When I was really depressed after my boyfriend died I slept 12-16 hours/day. It was my escape from the psychological pain.

If you are over sleeping it could be due to depression or so on, you can get tips from your local Dr if you go and visit them and ask about it, would you do that?

I could have written your post. I'm in bed right now and it is 3:30 in the afternoon. all I want to do is sleep, and I know it is an escape. it sounds like you are depressed. do you have a doctor you can talk to about it? Know you are not alone.
Thanks for this!

Oh I could've written this!!!!!!!!

I am the same. And even if I'm not actually SLEEPING for whatever reason, if I'm able to be in bed, I usually am. Just thinking, almost meditating......

It's definitely an escape. We need to figure out from what, and how to fix the problem. :/ anyone got any thoughts on this bit??

I am in the same boat as you. I slept 9 hours and after having my breakfast I want to close all doors and sleep again.

I'm just wondering, because no one has mentioned this yet, but you might want to check your diet. Are you a diabetic or possibly an anemic? I'm sure your issues with depression probably play a role, but it sounds like there is a possibility that it could be a physical as well as a mental issue. It's just a thought. You might want to check it out.

Also look into herbal methods of mood stabilizing and sleep regulation. Maybe a homeopathic approach will be helpful?

Just some thoughts. Good luck and I hope everything works out. *hugs*

Are you taking any medications for your depression? Lots of those can make you sleepy. Sometimes the effect wears off after you have been on the med for awhile and other times not.

Agree with LazyLogophile that you should consider undiagnosed problems and have a physical if you haven't had one for awhile and get some labwork.

I was exhausted when I had mononucleosis in college.

I've been going through "sleep/escape", too, but when I finally get up, even on a rainy day, I feel refreshed and know my body needed the sleep. Taking Paxil put me into a zombie-like state, having unnatural sleep habits; side effects of many meds do that.
I think one aspect of the sleep/escape pattern could be escape or protection.

I understand precisely what you signify when you state you don't desire to face things when you awaken up. All I can notify you is you're not solely with that issue.

I think you are adept to state to yourself, 'I have dweller through this horror. I can take the next thing that arrives along.' You should manage the thing you believe you will not do.

I feel the same way.

I wish I could just crawl into fantasyland.

someone told me that dreaming and sleeping are ways to process our lives safely.

I wish I could just vent and process forever in sleep and dreaming.

But I also know that we can't just sleep.

We have to be awake, too and function.

But I do understand fear of being awake.

Facing life.
