If you're depressed or have some other mental disorder, then lack of sleep is most likely caused by that. Otherwise, try not to stay on the computer/phone for a while before you go to bed, take a relaxing hot bath or shower, and don't have too much caffeine around nighttime.

Melatonin pills are good. I used to take them, but after a while they just didn't help me that much. They helped me a ton when I first started on them, though, and I still take them when I have a really hard time sleeping. And I'm going to see a therapist tomorrow (lol today really, I'm up so late!) about my depression and sleep issues, so I'll let you know about what she says. I have always had a hard time sleeping, since I was born, but over the past couple of months it got way worse

Because you stay up so late you must be keeping yourself awake with stimulation. To sleep we need to put our bodies AND minds into a state of relaxation which occurs when we become as motionless as possible in the 30 min.before we get into bed.

I totally agree with DrFrank, I have been trying this lately instead of reading, using computer, or watching t.v. I lay and focus on my breathing as well as listen to guided imagery audios. You can even find relaxation videos on youtube or maybe cds from your local library. I also drink milk before turning the lights off, about 1/2 cup of milk.
I can't say it will work all the time, but so far I am seeing improvements and the mediation has also improved my self esteem. Good luck! |
