If you're depressed or have some other mental disorder, then lack of sleep is most likely caused by that. Otherwise, try not to stay on the computer/phone for a while before you go to bed, take a relaxing hot bath or shower, and don't have too much caffeine around nighttime.

Melatonin pills are good. I used to take them, but after a while they just didn't help me that much. They helped me a ton when I first started on them, though, and I still take them when I have a really hard time sleeping. And I'm going to see a therapist tomorrow (lol today really, I'm up so late!) about my depression and sleep issues, so I'll let you know about what she says. I have always had a hard time sleeping, since I was born, but over the past couple of months it got way worse Hopefully she can help me, if she has some good advice I'll let u know

Because you stay up so late you must be keeping yourself awake with stimulation. To sleep we need to put our bodies AND minds into a state of relaxation which occurs when we become as motionless as possible in the 30 min.before we get into bed.

I totally agree with DrFrank, I have been trying this lately instead of reading, using computer, or watching t.v. I lay and focus on my breathing as well as listen to guided imagery audios. You can even find relaxation videos on youtube or maybe cds from your local library. I also drink milk before turning the lights off, about 1/2 cup of milk.
I can't say it will work all the time, but so far I am seeing improvements and the mediation has also improved my self esteem. Good luck!
