It's been this way for a while now. Either I don't get enough sleep...Or I sleep for too long. But mainly it's I don't get enough. It doesn't matter what time I go to bed. I wake up earlier if I go to bed earlier...I wake up later if I go to bed later (and sometimes sooner if there is a lot of noise).
And then there's the waking up every hour or so for no reason...Broken sleep is awful...I never feel rested...And it's really hard with playing sports...And most of the time when I wake up, I'm wide awake. Sometimes I just doze in and out of sleep. But it's like I crash hard because I'm so tired, but then I'm wide awake for the next hour or two...Then I crash again. And the cycle repeats... Also, it is difficult to fall asleep sometimes...I just lay there...And think. Toss and turn...Can't seem to relax enough to just fall asleep...I can't even sleep right. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on falling asleep and staying asleep? Or things that help them sleep at night? Or any idea of what the heck is going on with me? Nothing has changed recently along with it...So I find that sort of weird... I already have some things that I do...I try to sleep in a room that is as dark as possible...I only have in my bed the things I need (like enough blankets and pillows). I make sure I'm not to hot or cold...Sometimes I wonder if it is linked with something else going on with me...I'm really clueless at this point. Anything would be much appreciated! Thanks for your help! Take care. ![]() JDA |

Depression and mania can cause major issues with sleep...as can pretty much any heightened emotional state. So if you are diagnosed with anything that might spike or drop out your mood level, be aware of that.
You mentioned sports. Highly physical activity helps to keep one awake through the day and the exertion of energy can help a person to fall asleep faster at the end of the day. Also, eating a healthy diet, low on sugars and balanced between carbs and protein, can help keep your body in balance and sleep better. If you're exercising/active daily and eating healthy and still having problems... Melatonin is a good source for help. It's the same chemical the body creates to tell your biological clock when it's bed time. Take melatonin supplements a few times a week to sleep deeper and longer (to ensure length of sleep, try the extended release version of the supplement). Make sure to stagger which days you take the pills, and change up the dosage levels. This keeps your body form being able to effectively compensate for the new rise in melatonin levels. Also, if you're old enough sex is a great way to exert some energy right before bed. And if you're not able to have sex there's always self pleasure. The effect is both physical, as well as physiological. The endorphins and other pleasure chemicals released during the act can actively relax the body and allow for an easier time falling asleep.
