For the past month, I've had nonstop dreams about my ex-boyfriend. The dreams always hint that he'll re-enter my life and possibly want to date me again. I've been avoiding him for three months after he dumped me and got himself a younger girlfriend. Not thirty minutes ago, I get a text from him wanting me to give a ride to Charlotte, North Carolina. Before this, he only texted me to wish me happy holidays.

Coincidence? I think not. I'm so conflicted on what I should do. ><

Are you thinking your dreams and his text are linked somehow? You're dreaming of him as he's on your mind when awake and that's creeping into your sub conscious when asleep.
The text is no biggie, he's asking for a ride. It's not totally out of the blue as you two obviously remain in contact. He wants a favour and thought of you.
If he has a new gf, what is there to think about ? I'm not sounding hard, but it sounds like you haven't moved on yet, and are day dreaming happy endings and opportunities to rekindle this relationshi. I don't know, people do get back together after a break up, but I wouldn't look for any great signs, to explain these happenings other than coincidence.

Anyway if you do give him this lift, (ride) you can 'test the water' see how the land lays. Who knows ? Maybe the request is an excuse to see you, and talk.
Either way, good luck.

The point of my wondering is that we don't keep in contact. He only texts to wish me happy holidays, which isn't very often at all.

I think it's just the fear that he will re-enter your life. While my mom was separated from my dad, my godmother and I used to get dreams that she would fall back to him. It ended up being true but I don't think it was necessarily a premonition. I think you realistically knew that things aren't absolutely over between you and him and so you are dreaming of the possibility that he will be back in your life.
