At night it takes me 4 sometimes 5 hours to finally drift off, but for the last 2 months whenever I sleep I have nightmares about the apocalpyse, they're usually all different but they're so frightening I end up waking up. I'm now so nervous about sleeping I can't even get the 4 hours I usually do. Any advice?

Hello, leathernfaith. Sorry, I have no advice.

I do have a question. Have you discussed the recurring nightmares with a professional? Your primary care physician may be able to help you. If a physical condition is not the cause, perhaps your PCP could refer you to a specialist?

Sounds serious to me too. I would discuss it with someone versed in the meaning of dreams, psychology and the subconcious, a proper psychologist. Counsellors might not do the trick, their training doesn't include Jungian dream analysis. You definately need your sleep. Start by talking to your family doctor.

I don't know if it helps but I once had an apocalypse dream, but it wasn't scarey. I was in my own city after civilization had been destroyed and what it meant to me was that I was ready to leave my city and seek my own adult life elsewhere.

Hm well, if it means anything to you I have recurring dreams of a water world caused by giant tsunamis. However, I don't interpret this as an end of the world dream. I think it's more related to my worries and feeling overwhelmed by the "waves" or my problems. You're apocalypse might be symbolic, too. Fear of losing something, feeling stressed/worried, etc... but 4-5 hours to doze off is a bit extreme. I've also had dreams about demonic apocalyptic hounds. Once again I can tie that back to my problems. "You can run but you can't hide from them." What's on your mind before you go to sleep?
