I had an incident of strange behavior while taking Ambien, which had worked well for years without a problem. I had to go off it and find a different kind of sleep med, but what I'm taking (Dalmane) is just really a sedative and doesn't give me a full rested sleep.

I'm waking up earlier and earlier and then collapsing and sleeping during the day. I'm in school so I can do that, but it makes it hard to get back into the right rhythm and is starting to affect my ability to concentrate on my school work, which is very demanding.

I told my doctor that I didn't think it was going to work out, but he didn't seem to have an alternative to suggest. I was wondering if people were taking things that seemed to be safe but effective that I haven't considered yet.

Some people have episodes similar to blackouts or amnesia while taking Dalmane. They might go to a film or have a conversation with someone but not remember it later--not a happy side effect. I'd talk to your doctor again. You don't need a med that's messing with your concentration & may cause worse problems over time. There are so many options ...

Thanks, but I'm trying to find out what those options are. I came across something called Silenor, which is not a sedative. I've never heard of it before.
