I am 18 and I have had insomnia for the past six years.

While it has gotten better (0-2 hrs per night max when it began, now generally 2-4 hrs per night), it isn't nearly sufficient for my body. My mind is perfectly fine- I am able to wake up quite easily and last through a regular day without snoozing. But my body gets tired a lot sooner than my mind- I nearly faint from all physical activity (though my doctor has attributed this to somewhat low blood pressure and vasovagal syncope).

My parents don't believe in psychologists or medication, thus I'm restricted with the ways I could try and ease, if not cure, my insomnia. I have tried listening to "sleep tracks" before going to bed, I have altered my eating habits, I have altered my exercising habits, I dim all lights two hours before I plan to go to sleep, I have (behind my parents' back because of little choice) taken melatonin strips which somewhat helped, and I have tried meditating. All to no avail.

Does anyone have any suggestions for some other method I could try to induce sleep that isn't a pill?

You could try chamomile tea, valerian tea (but I think it tastes awful)..lavender oils on your pillow or put in some steaming water. Persoally I find vicks vapo rub makes me sleepy. But try different aromas and hot baths
Thanks for this!

More mild exercise might help.
