SO I decided to turn this life around now it time to work my tail off to be successful and noting will stop me.

I am Turing 30 in October 2013 and feel like i have I've failed in terms of what my potential is. I don't think I've achieved my potential because I haven't worked that hard and I haven't found the right angles.
Anyway I decided to go back to college a 2nd time .My job is OK but it a dead end job and it is nothing I am passion at about doing forever. Retail sucks and I do not like it at all so it was time to do something new. Working night crew for the rest of my life is no fun and there no wear to go in retail. My job just does not pay well like $18 an hour will not feed a family even working full time.

So studying hard is key and good grades on top of that. I still have some core class to take and got a lot of work a head of me. When i am not studying i am working and when i am not a college i am reading and studying all the time. no time for fun and games or dating.
I want to be a nurse practitioner or nurse and if a else fails physical therapy assistant.

I have only be getting 3 to 4 hours of sleep a night with a nap in between .
here is my weekly schedule.

work: sun-fri - 11:30 pm till 8:30 am
class taking two class 10:30am till 1:30pm mon-wed-fri
study mon-wed-fri 2pm till 5pm
study tue - thurs 10 am till 5pm

sleep at 7pm every night and get up at 10:50 pm

week ends i do not work but get up at 6am and study until 10am and eat then go to the library until 6pm and go home to study some more .

Sacrificing sleep to become successful and not dating making time for people , giving up every thing not related to work or studying.
its an exhausting lifestyle , and i always said sleep can go .its not important to me now.

On top of that i never sleep that much as a kid 8 hours of sleep is a dream . Growing up i only get 6 hours of sleep and can wake up and have all this energy.

The desire to feel like i am not a loser drives me. I don't know if that's the healthiest thing—to be motivated by a fear of hating yourself, but it helps.

At the end of the day if a fail I will know i did every thing in my power to get out of poverty and move on to a job that will go some wear .

When you want to succeed, as bad as you want to breath, then you will be successful.

Hey there,

I use to be like you..... It nearly landed me in hospital.

In theory we can not live without sleep. There was a programme in the UK recently about sleep. Psychologists said we need sleep to survive. Fod and Drink we can live longer without. In order to function well we all need sleep be it 5 hours or 8 hours.

Any chance you can go to your Doctor's and ask for advice.

I know if I don't stick to a routine then I am really messing up my sleep. I am lucky as I don't work. But I use to work shift work (mornings, afternoons, evenings, mid's, sleep overs and night shift). Your bedroom should just be for sleep. No tv's, music, dvd players, computer's etc should be in there. It should be a quiet haven. Also you shouldn't write before bed too.

I use to survive on 0-4 hours sleep a night and mostly it was under 2.... Between that and my moods I had a nervous breakdown and was bed ridden Doctor's orders

Hope you find peace soon!

IMO its neither superhuman or stupid, I've been living off an average of 4hrs since I was 14... Some of us just need less sleep, it doesn't affect everybody negatively. I do realize however that my body itself does need rest, to recuperate so I schedule rest into my life and give myself a timeout to lie in, read, or even sleep if I can... If you naturally need less sleep, I honestly dont foresee a problem...

I don't think you'll have to study quite that much, which would give you more sleep and social time. A lot of people take 2 classes and work full time. It's an ambitious schedule but you can do it.

It sounds like a good way to burn yourself out. Working extremely hard without giving yourself enough time to rest and recuperate could be setting yourself up for failure.

On the other hand, I don't know what you're capable of. Perhaps you would be just fine. People tend to need more sleep than their usual when they're working hard and using a lot of mental energy. Just be prepared for that and have some options planned in case.

Time to relax, slow down. No wonder you only sleep so little. Why be so hard on yourself? Also you need to redefine success for your self. Success is not always the accumulation of weath and prestege. Success can be surviveal, spiritual connections, and wisdom. Get more in touch with feelings and things of the Heart.

I demand a lot from my self and try to push my self to my limits.
It not all about the money but it about having a job i want to show up to every day. I am embarrassed to tell people what i do for i living right now.

On top of that If i ever get a girl friend I want enough money to take her out and do things . Also I want enough money to pay bills and have more family time and spend time with my kids if i ever find the right girl to settle down with.

At my current job i have to work 80+ hours a week to make any money.

I understand a need for a career. But it's basically proven that sleep is needed for the learning process. So if you study less and sleep more you will probably remember more.

Good to see your going to college. Enen I barely have enough money to pay the bills. But I mange to do and see what I want if I am commited to it. Stay commited to going to school. Be resouceful about other things as well!

Two things which tend to be impacted first are your memory and your IQ, if you are not getting the sleep you need. So your studying will be less effective and it will take longer. I think you might be better off picking things from your textbook and notes to record then listening to the playback while you are doing other things. Get the sleep you need and use time that would otherwise go to waste, like shopping. Or if you can play your recordings back on speakers instead of headphones, while you are driving around.

And I've never managed to get $18/hour - so I think you are doing really well.

Do you feel exhausted? Some people just don't sleep as much as some.

As someone with chronic insomnia, and a busy life, I can say that personally 3-4 hours a sleep a day is something you can live off of, especially with a nap as well. That's considered biphasic sleep. Throughout history there's been many great men to sleep this way or use other polyphasic sleep to deal with their hectic schedules including Bill Clinton, Lord Byron, Winston Churchill, Napoleon and Leonardo di Vinci....the list keeps going. If you're willing to push yourself, sleep is something that can be sacrificed, so long as you're reasonable and listen to your body as well and balance it with a healthy amount of rest now and then.

I respect your attitude, and agree that if you're willing to do anything to be successful, then you'll get there. You may enjoy this article - 21 Ways Rich People Think Differently. Despite the title, I believe a more appropriate title for the article is 21 Ways Successful People Think Differently...although a few are definitely to do with wealth. Regardless, give it a read.

If you are getting enough sleep, it should take some time to get to sleep. You should not be getting to sleep right after your head hits the pillow. If you are not getting enough sleep there are increased risks for health problems later on. It is better to manage your time differently than to avoid sleep.

Pushing yourself works better if you are also getting the resources your body needs to keep up. Otherwise it is like weight training without getting protein in your diet, or driving with an empty gas tank. For most people, brainwave entrainment (example: http://iso-tones.com/index.php/about) can help with reducing the need for sleep. Herbs like ginseng and vitamins like B-complex can help with adapting to the stresses you are putting on yourself with your schedule. And there are all kinds of strategies on the internet for getting better results from the time you put into your studies. Recording key information for later playback just happens to be my favorite, but another one involves drawing out maps of how ideas relate to each other so you can see the big picture and you have places to add additional information as you get to it.

Hia,
I'd like to tell you that my daughter is very hard on herself, just like you. She has no sleep schedule and often gets no sleep, or 3 or 4 hours, and she thinks she functions fine. However, I notice when she gets little sleep she rambles about anything that comes to her mind, which is a LOT, and she makes a lot of mistakes in her speech, with her memory and with her typing. She absolutely refuses to acknowledge that she needs more sleep in order to function well. It's like she doesn't notice the difference between when she functions well, and when she doesn't.
My personal opinion is that you are being too hard on yourself. Let yourself get a healthy amount of sleep, good diet, and as well, time to just relax, and you might find that you are not troubled so much about the fear of failure. This is when you'll be in an optimal state of mind, which will help you learn more efficiently.
However, I've been there and done that, so I can sympathize.
Do consider getting good, and regular sleep though.

Madonna has been saying that she needs only 5 hours of sleep.

But you have to be wired for that. You cannot force it.

I am just resigned to the fact that I need a lot of sleep.

Plus, I enjoy sleeping.

I have sleep apnea and need over 12 hours of sleep with my machine most days. I know I am missing out on some good times when everyone is awake, but I go to bed really early and get up about 7 or 8 in the morning. This machine makes me feel so good the next day i don't want to mess things up by changing the amount of sleep i get. I also have crack in my scull from accidents and i think that was what causes it. I also get seizures, and luckily I don't get seizures anymore since 2007, after being put on a different med.

I need my 8 hours. If I don't sleep enough my psychosis goes into overdrive and that is not fun.
