Over the last 20 years I have had this dream about 8-10 times. I have not had it in a few years but I wish I would have it again. When I did wake up from it in the past, I would always lay quiet and try to fall back asleep to continue it. Not a lot happens in the dream but I love the feeling.

In the dream I am lying flat on my back with my hands palms up against my chest holding a basketball sized boulder. It does not feel heavy(like a rock of that size would) but does feel snug against my chest and in my mind I know it is only a grain of sand. As I lay there in the dream I am contemplating why this grain of sand feels so big but I am not questioning why it is so comforting. I feel absolutely peaceful and calm and in the dream I want nothing more than to continue holding what I know is only a grain of sand.
When I awake I feel disappointed that the dream is over.

I can't really guess what it means but I can't imagine such a dream recurring so many times without it meaning something. I would appreciate any comments or possible meanings for the dream you may have.

Do you have any associations to holding something against your chest? Have you ever held a baby or a pet there?

SOME EDITS:

Also, a T'ai Chi practitioner I know talked about the sensation that your are holding a ball of energy between your hands in front of your chest. You might not be a T'ai Chi practitioner, but some of these associations might be to archetypal factors (things that arise spontaneously in all humans)

Like holding something precious against your chest seems to be universal. (Maybe another one is holding a stuff animal.)

I mention these things just to see if they click for you.

About the grain of sand, aren't there some parables about each grain of sand being precious to God, or something about how there are as many people as grains of sand but God cares about all of them? It's an interesting feeling, putting such a quality of rapt attention, and taking so much peace, from a tiny thing (which is only one of billions).

Interesting observations Mike, especially about a grain of sand being 1 of many and being precious to God. I can say that it is the most peaceful feeling i have ever had, like I never want to leave and with your observations I kind of relate that to the peace I will someday feel in God's presence.
I had not considered that before and had always equated the dream with burial and the peacefulness with the afterlife. Thank you

You were holding some thing close to your Heart. Can you remember what it was?
