I woke up in a field and a Bison led me to this clearing. within the clearing was her baby calf which she nudged with her nose, ushering the calf to come over to me. The calf did and I picked her up. Even no nothing was seen regarding a slaughter house it was the understanding when the older, mother bison walked away she was going to be killed for meat. I then tried to get the calf out of the field. ..the dream ended with me cradling the calf tightly under a tree.

I woke suddenly, so very thirsty, the dream was so real, like none ever before.

2 days later I headed out to where one of two last remaining wild Prairie Bison Herd lives and roams. I went their simply because I wanted to lay eyes one after this dream. I found the herd very quickly, and gazed in the eyes of this young female.

Can anyone shed any light on this dream for me? I have read that such dreams have been regarded as "spirit/vision quest dreams"

Im really looking for some deep insight into this dream, as I know it wasn't just another dream..

I would be glad to give my thoughts on it, but let me ask some questions to get a feel for what these dream images might mean to you.

What do you associate with bison in general, with the adults or the babies? What qualities do they have?

Animals can represent all sorts of things about people, including a more basic level of being (the level on which we breathe and our heart beats and we walk through nature). Can you draw a connection between a bison and any qualities within yourself? A bison could represent a higher level of being for you, such as a fully integrated state of being in which all parts of you are drawn into unity or you are drawn into a spiritual experience.

The dream seems to be suggesting that the mama Bison is no longer going to be able to care for her calf, and you are given that job. You are given the job of protecting and nurturing the calf. It is like you take over for her. Does that seem to resonate?

Tatanka!!! The young one is Yourself. You are maturing and no longer need your Mother to care for you. You are taking care of yourself. No slaughter house? Did strong Warriors come? Did they take your mother for the People?

The scene suggests that you have come to a greater state of awareness (woke up) that can pertain to your field of interest or expertise. (in a field) As the bison is found in this field, the awareness can relate to the bison.

The bison, represents an aspect of your own emotional nature, one which can give you an inclination or ability to function in a certain manner. The bison, also known as a buffalo, can indicate an emotional nature giving you the ability to be intimidating or pushy. Note the expression, to buffalo", meaning to intimidate or threaten, to overwhelm by a show of force or authority. The massive head on a bison/buffalo can also suggest having the ability to be or function as if head-strong – stubbornly determined to have one's own way.

When following, or going with, this type of emotional nature you are brought to a place where the grounds of reasoning are open to the light and intelligence of the Lord. (the clearing) On these grounds you are made aware that this ability to be pushy, or head-strong has increased in intensity. (mother bison has a calf – there are now 2 bison instead of one) The calf would indicate a much less intensely felt urge or inclination to be or act in a pushy or head-strong manner. This is a more innocent version of this emotional nature, one which you pick up on; one you make yourself more aware of.

It is your instinctive emotional understanding, that the greater intensity of this type of emotional nature must be sacrificed. (she was going to be killed) Being killed for meat would imply that the great intensity of this pushiness or strong-headedness is to be sacrificed so that others may obtain satisfaction from what is “mete” or right. Getting the calf out of the field can suggest removing this type of ability from your area of expertise, but also perhaps to keep it safe. This would seem confirmed by cradling the calf. As this is done under a tree, it suggests that this instinctive ability be safe-guarded but in relation to spiritual and psychological knowledge.{The scene appears to be saying that the True Self would hold onto this ability – but at a much lower level of intensity. This would be especially so if you are male. Spiritual thinking would require this ability or tendency to be somewhat held in check.}

The great thirst you awake with indicates that a thirst or desire has come from your own “Dream World” where much fantasy and imagination are being used. The usual thirst would refer to a thirst for spiritual knowledge (water). In your case you seem to have acquired the idea that dream animals are “spirit guides”. Animals in dreams are guides only to a better understanding of your own emotional nature. In the stricter sense of “a guide” being a leader and teacher, I personally would have no desire to be led by any type of animal. I am “human” and do not take guidance from any dog, wolf, bear etc. Animal images need to be interpreted for the self knowledge they bring you, but not regarded as guides. {Sorry if this upsets anyone.}

P.S. It is not only the young one that is “yourself” but also the older one – as all images in dreams are an aspect of yourself.
