Ive had 3 of these nightmares when I was 10 and younger, I really can't see anything at all in the dream. Its more of just a feeling, a really horrible feeling. Somethings chasing me, I cant see it but I definitely could feel it and im running. And then I fall on the ground and feel this horrible fear of something slowly coming down on my body, being crushed and I cant breath.

I've had similar dreams as well. Generally I tend to feel powerless in life and I see dreams like that as an extension of my greatest fears: my fear of the unknown (not being able to see) and my fear of death and/or being trapped (the feeling of being crushed and not being able to breathe). Don't know if any of this fits for you. I hope it helps.
I read somewhere - Jungian psychology I think, although it could be something else - that when the shadow (subconscious, the side of ourselves that is the 'dark' side, the side we all like to hide and ignore and push away) is trying to communicate with us and we are ignoring it, it often will seek dramatic ways to make itself known.
