Anyone else have the experience of struggling so hard to move, feeling paralyzed yet awake, but then realizing you were asleep the whole time? I just had a series of those (especially when I sleep over 12 hours) where I would struggle with every fibre of my being to move or wake up, until I eventually did, at which point I just went back to sleep. I'm forcing myself to stay awake now because it feels absolutely terrifying, not to mention I have slept way too much and I'd better get up.

I think it's a form of sleep paralysis, but I'm still looking into that.

Okay, I'm pretty sure it's sleep paralysis.

Same thing used to happen to me it is the most awful experience. I heard its natural to be paralized during part of the sleep process. This and nightmares got better when my T put me on prasosin. Maybe you could ask about it. Good luck
Thanks for this!

In the first version of this post (which I lost), I think I mentioned that I'm pretty sure it's because of one of the medications I'm taking, because it never happened before and now it's almost guaranteed if I sleep too much.

I had it again yesterday. I realize that I am actually awake, because I remember looking at details in the room and thinking I couldn't be dreaming them. I seem to hallucinate as well.

Sounds like sleep paralysis, it used to happen to me too. Prazosin fixed me as well. I havent had it in years nor have I been on prazosin for years.

But since you sleep too much it sounds like an easy solution is not to sleep so much

I've had this twice now in the last week. Last night being one. I used to have it happen maybe once then id wake up and fall back asleep. But these two episodes have been it happening over and over until I couldn't take it anymore had to wake hubby to hold me. Last night was just awful and I felt for the first time like I understood why people crack up even more. I honestly felt like I was heading for another psychotic break.
Im convinced it's either the lithium or a combo of it worth over tiredness.

I think the combo doesn't help. I would lean towards blaming the Effexor myself. It's definitely something worth telling your doctor about.
