I wish there was a lid on my head that would allow me to take my brain out and place it on my nightstand. 2 hours sleep last night and 4 hours sleep the night b4. I can't live on Lunesta and Benedryl.

have you looked at your caffeine intake? I discovered that I was highly sensitive to caffeine and if I had any after noon I was up till four am. even the b vitamins in vitamin water gave me too much energy to sleep. or the ginsing in the drinks. exercise before bed. stimulating tv will keep you up even. check into these things and see if they help.take care.

Thanks. I don't drink caffeinated coffee or tea anymore. Just a wee bit of dark chocolate during the day...nothing else that would keep me awake but me and the thoughts running in my head.

That sounds terrible D: Have you tried meditation? I know my mom has always had trouble with her sleep so she's been trying meditation and taking a hot shower before bed and she says that helps. The real trouble is turning the brain off for the night and my favorite thing to do is daydream--nothing particularly realistic and before I know it I'm asleep. I hope it gets better soon!

Welcome to my world. I wish I had a solution for you but at this point in my life I have accepted that my sleep patterns are just something I need to adapt to. One thing that does help me divert brain activity is listening to audio books. If the book is a good one I can engage in the story to slow down the "churning" of thoughts. I even have a couple books that I call "real sleepers" that I listen to just because the narration is soothing. Usually they are good for at least a couple hours snooze.

Good Luck!

I know exactly how you feel. I once went for a month without being able to get more than 3 hours of sleep per night. Look into "Blue Light Therapy". You may just need to reset your circadian cycle. It really does work.
Thanks for this!

Lunesta and Benadryl are weak. Try Zyprexa, it's more of a horse tranquilizer.

Dear Sophie0126,

I understand what you are saying about taking your brain and placing it on the nightstand.
Lunesta and Benedryl aren't the best mix.
Sleep aids only work for a short amount of time, thats why you awake 2-4 hours later.

If your brain is super active no meds are going to work efficiently.

I like the idea of meditation/ bluelight/ and tell your dr meds aren't working.
From what I heard about Lunesta, people have had bad side effects.
Depending on the root cause you can find a way to adequate sleep.

Auntie2014 recommended audio books. Listening to a soothing narrative works for a lot of people.
It acts like a distraction. Acoustic melodies/symphonies can work as well.

I also would recommend turning the clock around, too many people count the hours left and this brings on anxiety.
I would suggest rethinking bedtime as something to look forward to. IMO have a snack before bed something you really enjoy. A small piece of dark chocolate with half glass of milk. Turn the tv off. A relaxing audio meditation/ book sounds good. Look forward to sleep, it opens to a whole new world of dreams.
Hope this helps.
Things will change slowly and repetition should put you back in harmony with your circadian sleep cycle.
