I keep having dreams where I have feelings for the one person. Every dream for at least the last month or so I’m in all sort of situations some realistic, some downright outrageous and that make no sense. This person and I are friends but I’m not sure. Am I just lonely? How much should I actually put into my dreams?
Do dreams always have to have a meaning put to them?

The feelings are not necessarily about that person, could be about what that person "means". For example, a lot of people dream of celebrities; I had a dream about Elton John, borrowed a pair of white glasses from him, they went with my cow outfit and later he used a machine gun to cut down a wooden fence between two properties :-) but I have never particularly liked Elton John. So the person could be a symbol of something else.

What do you and this person do together in real life? What are some of the individual dreams? That you are friends could be part of the key to the dreams; he's a known, common entity in all the dreams so he could just be tying all the dreams together in some way or showing you that whatever they are each about is something "friendly", something you should care or have feelings about, that sort of thing.

I don't know we both have a lot in common like TV shows, music taste etc.

In one dream I knew I had feelings for him and he'd hinted at feelings for me but he had a girlfriend (the girlfriend he has in real life) but then as the dream went on they broke up and even he said sorry to me heaps for me liking him and the fact he was taken even though he liked me back. In the end he took my to my favourite band and saw them live. Then I woke up.

Another I was just at school and I was crushing on him hard and we hung out and were just talking.

In another we were somewhere I don't remember where and we were dating and kissing and just being couplely

That's just some of them

There is a theory that if you analyze each major component it will help you understand what the dream is about.
You start by writing down each major component, Then you write words that represent that component and finally you write down short sentences about what each component is saying to you.
As an example, I had a dream several times where I was in a large park with people doing various things. In the dream I was naked and trying to cover myself, There was also a gazebo that was pristine white.
Some of the components were the other people, being naked, and the pristine, white gazebo.
Being naked - vulnerable, fearful, ugly, ...
What it was saying to me - people are disgusted, how could she come to the park naked, she's stupid, we see everything, you can't hide, ...
You can't tell from this example since I didn't show the whole dream, but I was able to make sense of the whole dream and after that I didn't have that dream again.

Your mind is using the friend as a stand in for your yourself. Thus you are feeling about how you feel about yourself. Dreams are all about feelings, thus they are important. Dreams are how the mind process the days events and your feelings.
