Ive just recently been taking ambien for sleep. And it gives me these extremely vivid and live like dreams. I wake up in a sweat and panic thinking it really happened to me. Sometimes I dream of things that scare me so bad I wake myself up and fear that it really happened. Is this a side effect that will go away or do I need to switch?

I've had a couple vivid dreams, sort of, on it, since prescribed in '09/'10((think '10)), but nothing really concerning. Can you phone consult, with your pdoc??

That's not uncommon, which is why I think a lot of doctors seem hesitant to prescribe it. I used it a little bit in 2005 and I had weird dreams while sleeping and hallucinations as I waited to fall asleep. Talk to your doctor about it.

I started taking ambien almost 10 years ago when diagnosed with insomnia. Thanks to a dr who listens to me I was re diagnosed with circadian rhythm disorder and no longer require ambien except on rare nights when i must sleep normal hours. Vivid dreams as well as sleepwalking are common. After a time these side effects will wear off most likely. No promises. Talk to dr who prescribed it to you to decide best option for you.
