I have the same dream almost every night, I am in a car, and I know that I am supposed to be driving, but I cannot reach the wheel. Either I am in the passengers seat or I am in the backseat. And no matter how hard I try I cannot reach the drivers seat. I am usually paralyzed. And most of the time I fear being caught by someone for not driving, most of the time the car loses control and I crash. And then nothing I move onto another dream or I wake up.
I have been having recurring dreams for years and sleep problems along with it. But this one takes the cake. All my dreams are vivid, but I cannot control them. I have come to the conclusion that it has mostly to do with the fact that I have no control over my life and no matter how hard I try I am paralyzed to fix it. |

Dear LongLiveP.,
Yes, it sounds like you understand your recurring dream theme, congratulations. The only thing is you say that you try, but feel paralyzed to fix it. Sometimes when people say they try or are trying, what they really mean is they are not ready to make the next step. Everything in your dream is YOU, You are you, the car, the passenger, the driver, the fear of being controlled/out of control, and the crash. You never arrive at a destination, you never mention where you are going. But know that you do have control, what do you want to do or where do you want to go? Take your personal power back, set up boundaries and don't allow people to control you. You can do this in small steps or a leap either way is up to you! Life is hard, Be Harder. Trust yourself and may you find many happy destinations! H.

Remember, you are moving on to other dreams. Thus you are leaving the feelings of being out of control behind.

I had similar dreams as a child. I occasionally have them now. As a kid it meant yes i was being asked to do things that were really beyond my level.

Quote:
Like your dream, this is about a lack of control, yet they differ somewhat. You are not in the driver's seat where you are supposed to be (or where you feel you are supposed to be). I wonder why you are not in the driver's seat in the dream? This may be very symbolic of feeling like you are not where you are supposed to be in some situation, or not in the right position to control your circumstances. It could represent a specific fear keeping you from being in a position of control, symbolized by feeling paralyzed. I'm in the driver's seat, but cannot control the car, which I think means that I'm not able to control aspects of my life or circumstances, either because I don't know how to or because something seems to be happening beyond my control (that is the feeling in the dream anyway). I don't think it is an actual fear of having control, because I'm trying my best to control the car, even though it will not respond to my efforts. Note: I have a phobia of driving in real life. |
