It's been day three sleeping on Prazosin and haven't noticed much change to my disturbing dreams except that I can't really remember them.

I'd rather have the adrenaline manic dreams and then be able to remember them visually in the morning to analyze all the symbolism and conflicts my Seroquel gives me in addition to giving me a good eight hours of sleep.

Anybody else been on Prazosin, and if so, what did you think about it. I'll keep it in my medicine cabinet but after three nights on it the only thing I really noticed is the inability to remember my dreams to be able to interpret them.

Feedback and comments welcome.

Much Peace

Prazosin has really helped with my ptsd nightmares. It took a while to work, and I do remember I had similar effects with the not remembering. I have been on it for about 4 months now and while I do have the occasional nightmare still, it has definitely helped with the ptsd nightmares and streaks of bad dreams. If you feel comfortable with it, I would give it another try. Hope this helps!

Do NOT take yourself off the medicine. You have every right to go off it, but you do not want to do this by yourself. Besides, how long does it take to work for you? You don't know, you're doctor doesn't know. These medications take longer to build up a therapeutic dose if you are more needful of it... 3 days is not long enough to know, unless you were having night tremors or such..which you aren't.

You owe it to the prescribing doctor, who believes you are following the prescription, to call and discuss this with him/her.

Good wishes.

UPDATE: I took the prazosin for two more days and there is no change in my sleep dreams and nightmares so I'm just going to stop meddling with it and stick with whatever the seroquel gives me. At least its pretty much an 8 hours of sleep I get I'm not easily scared but am willing to take the dreams and spend the morning putting the visions and symbolism exploring them. Prazosin may also be a bp medication but i take lisinopril and metroprolol er for my stage one hypertension (last bp reading was 127/78).

The only thing the Prazosin has done is cloud up my memory of dreams. I prefer them to linger for hours in the morning while I dissect the meaning in my dreams. Four psych meds and two bp meds are enough for me... don't need more if they aren't going to help me like my p-doc promised. So down the toilet they go.

Well, I hope things work out! Nightmares suck and while prazosin has done wonders for me I know its not for everyone. Hope you find something that works!

Last night was my second night skipping my Prazosin and a lot of you have responded to not give up, to keep taking it until it works, much in the same way a depressed person has to wait often weeks for their antidepressant to work.

Well I decided its worth the dark journey into my soul and mind at night and spend my mornings before I go online to journal my dreams and analyze the images, visions, and symbolism in my dreams since they are now easy to remember even hours after I've had them. I'm already on two bp meds and Prazosin is in its main function, a blood pressure reducing medication with the off-label use for reduction in PTSD related nightmares. I've decided I'd rather have the nightmares and use my dream analysis skills to see what is hiding in my subconscious mind or things I've buried deep that can tell me what is really eating at me.

Thank you all for your replies but the less meds I have to take the better I feel.

Much Peace.

worried about nightmares again so i went back on the prazosin and read from Medscape it can take from several days to several weeks with positive test results in PTSD related nightmares and also blocks the epinephrine response liable for creating nightmares. it is also good for hypertension which i have so i will give this medication a few months and possibly an increase from 2mg up if not doing better by the end of the months prescription.

thanks everyone who replied to stick with it. last night i did have combined sexual dreams mixed with very unsettling nightmares but i did sleep a good 8 hours only waking once at 3 am but was able to go back to sleep no problem.

if there is anybody else on this medication please share your experiences with it positive or negative.
